Connecting Communities  We are very excited to announce a new project called Connecting Communities that our student artists are working on along with our creative team. Through Cambridge Community Foundation we have received a grant from the A14 Community Fund and we are starting work on what will be a local project.   Working alongside Milton County Park and Hinchingbrooke Country Park our student artists and the surrounding communities will create two public art installations that will be on show at both parks. Our student artists will lead the way with the designs and the direction of the project. To bring

Radio Waves

Radio Waves   One of our latest pieces of work is now in pride of place at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge. The bench was made in honour of Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell who discovered the first radio pulsar in 1967 whilst studying as a graduate student at the College. The wave down the middle of the bench is a radio wave that accurately traces the same radio wave discovered. The bench itself is made from Iroko, with glow resin inserts to give it something special! If you get a chance to see the bench take a closer

The sign was commissioned by Peter Garside and is dedicated to the memory of his wife Pauline who passed away in 2016. Rowan was very honoured to be offered the commission. Pauline and Peter were regular visitors to Milton Country Park for twenty plus years and after Pauline required a wheelchair they were able to continue visiting the park safely with her mobility

Fun at Appleday!  Thank you to Darwin Nurseries for inviting Rowan along to their Appleday event this week. We also had our students come along from Rowan to join in with the activities, meet the animals and get involved in a fantastic day. Bring on the next one!  “I enjoyed coming to Darwin today as I have never been.”  “I liked looking around and trying the apples – I liked the chocolate covered ones.”

Game of Thrones…

Game of Thrones… At Rowan our student artists not only have the opportunity to work on their own creative projects in their choice of woodwork, ceramics, textiles, print and mixed media but they can also get involved in commissions. A great example of this is one of our latest commissions for Millington Road Nursery School. We were asked to create a throne for the nursery that included the following animals: penguin, owl, hedgehog, fox, duckling, badger and a squirrel. The throne itself came together through the hard work of the woodwork team and student artists. Alongside this we had many
