Day 25 – Friday 17th April

  • 60 minutes plus 5 minutes’ cooldown level 10 (bike 1)
  • Max heart rate = 162 bpm
  • Calories = 603 (total so far 8163)
  • Distance covered = 19.52
  • Total distance so far = 277.88

It’s been a tough week one way or another so I had no great plans for breaking records today. Keeping the rpm over 80 and total calories over 600 were my aims and I achieved both (just) – so pleased, especially as I’m keeping the bike at level 10.

Hot Chocolate was on as Dave and I reminisced about them headlining Cambridge’s Big Weekend in 2013. It was a beautiful summer evening and a huge crowd, something else we will miss this year.

While You Sexy Thing was probably not how I felt at the end of a tough ride, Don’t Stop It Now, Everyone’s A Winner and So You Win Again struck just the right note!

I’m now heading in a south westerly direction as I whizz on round the outskirts of Perth. There has been a settlement here since pre-historic times and now as Scotland’s newest city, it is a hub of activity and events and beautifully located on the Tay.

My destination for today is Auchterarder, whose main claim to fame is as home to the 5-star Gleneagles Hotel and of course the golf.

However, probably less well known about Auchterarder is that it has the longest main street in Scotland, which runs for over a mile!

This old picture of the high street is a poignant reminder of our high streets in current times.

We might have often complained about too much traffic in towns and cities but I think most of us will be glad to get back to a bit of hustle and bustle.
