Rowan Open Studios
As part of Cambridge Open Studios this year, Rowan will be taking the opportunity to showcase not only its new studio work, but also to display its completed River Cam project, funded by the Heritage Lottery.
At Rowan we encourage our students, who are learning-disabled people, to engage with the community through the arts, and we are especially grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for this opportunity to do so. To fulfil the project brief, our students have been out and about exploring the heritage of the River Cam, meeting people who work and live along the river and visiting diverse riverside organisations. The result of their experience is recorded in the work the students have produced at Rowan in response to the project. The display will be mounted in Rowan’s gallery for visitors to see and explore the Cam themselves.
Rowan will be open over one weekend this July, Saturday and Sunday 15th– 16th, from 11.00am to 5.00pm both days, and as well as showing the project and the students’ latest work, the family-friendly activities – for which Rowan is known – in woodwork, ceramics, printmaking, textiles and mixed media will be in full swing. There will be refreshments too.
